Have you heard of the California coastal phenomenon known as “May Gray”?
It refers to what happens at this time of year when the spring winds die down, inland temperatures warm up, and the humid air gets drawn into the beach areas. It’s the reason why Mark Twain said the coldest winter he ever spent was summer in San Francisco, or something like that.
Cooler morning temps make for more comfortable hikes, tho:
Before anything happens in my day, a green smoothie is in order. This one had hemp milk, steamed kale and spinach, frozen mango and cherries, plus banana, cocoa powder, cinnamon, chia seeds, a farm-fresh raw egg yolk, and macadamia nuts. I fill up my blender to the tippy-top which makes two really big servings, shared with my man:
I usually throw in a green tea ice cube for a bit of pep in my step, but I also enjoyed a cup of black tea to warm/wake up (unpictured).
This day also included a visit farmers’ market where I found flowers ugly, edible, and beautiful.
The ugly and edible (I think) were these artichoke flowers:
The beautiful and inedible were these exquisite pink peonies (loooooooove):
Lunchtime back at the ranch was a salad with butter lettuce picked up at the FM, fermented veggies, pumpkin seed butter, apple cider vinegar, dried cranberries, flax, and a couple of soft-boiled eggs:
Even with these overcast mornings we’re having, the skies usually clear out late afternoon and make for really
pretty phenomenal views:
I love taking a late afternoon break and just getting close to the water for some sun and relaxation:
Dinner was easy with some ground meat cooked with kale and beans, plus quick-pickled cucumbers, white rice, and avocado:
